Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate hands-on care to residents, focusing on dignity and respect
- Assist with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, feeding, and toileting
- Take and record vital signs, reporting any changes promptly to nursing staff
- Support mobility and safe transferring techniques to prevent falls
- Document care accurately and communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team
- Engage residents in social interaction and meaningful activities to enhance quality of life
Qualifications
- Current GNA certification or equivalent as required by Maryland
- Valid CPR/BLS certification preferred or willing to obtain
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening
- Current immunizations per facility policy (e.g., flu, COVID as required)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills with a resident-centered approach
- Previous long-term care or geriatric experience preferred but enthusiastic newcomers are welcome
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- State-required GNA certification or completion of an approved nursing assistant program
Knowledge & Skills
- Comfortable assisting with activities of daily living for older adults
- Basic clinical skills: vital signs, ADL support, safe transfers
- Knowledge of infection control and standard precautions
- Good documentation practices and familiarity with electronic or paper charting
- Calm, patient demeanor and strong observational skills
- Ability to follow care plans and escalate changes in condition appropriately
