Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, person-centered care to geriatric residents, supporting dignity and comfort
• Assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding) with respect and patience
• Monitor and report changes in residents’ condition, including vital signs and behavior
• Document care and observations accurately and promptly in the resident record
• Support safe mobility and fall-prevention measures, using proper body mechanics
• Communicate effectively with nursing staff and families to ensure coordinated care
• Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for residents

Qualifications

• Current GNA certification or state-equivalent credential (required or as applicable by state rules)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification preferred or willingness to obtain
• Prior experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, or geriatric settings preferred
• Strong communication skills and a patient, respectful approach to resident care
• Ability to pass background checks and meet facility onboarding requirements

Education

• High school diploma or GED
• Completion of an accredited Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) program or equivalent

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of geriatric care principles and common age-related conditions
• Skilled in safe resident handling, transfer techniques, and fall prevention
• Ability to take and record vital signs accurately
• Familiarity with infection control practices and PPE use
• Good documentation practices and basic charting skills
• Compassion, patience, and the ability to build rapport with residents and families
