Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, person-centered care to geriatric residents, supporting dignity and comfort
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding) with respect and patience
- Monitor and report changes in residents’ condition, including vital signs and behavior
- Document care and observations accurately and promptly in the resident record
- Support safe mobility and fall-prevention measures, using proper body mechanics
- Communicate effectively with nursing staff and families to ensure coordinated care
- Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for residents
Qualifications
- Current GNA certification or state-equivalent credential (required or as applicable by state rules)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification preferred or willingness to obtain
- Prior experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, or geriatric settings preferred
- Strong communication skills and a patient, respectful approach to resident care
- Ability to pass background checks and meet facility onboarding requirements
Education
- High school diploma or GED
- Completion of an accredited Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) program or equivalent
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of geriatric care principles and common age-related conditions
- Skilled in safe resident handling, transfer techniques, and fall prevention
- Ability to take and record vital signs accurately
- Familiarity with infection control practices and PPE use
- Good documentation practices and basic charting skills
- Compassion, patience, and the ability to build rapport with residents and families
