Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist in delivering occupational therapy interventions that help patients regain independence in daily activities
- Implement treatment plans under the supervision of the OTR, adapting activities to each patient’s goals
- Document patient progress, responses to treatment, and any changes in condition clearly and promptly
- Collaborate with nursing, rehab staff, and families to create cohesive, person-centered care plans
- Provide patient and family education to promote carryover of therapeutic activities at home
- Maintain therapy equipment and ensure a safe treatment environment for all patients
- Contribute to a positive, motivating atmosphere that supports patient recovery and staff teamwork
Qualifications
- Current Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) credential
- Active state license or registration as required by North Carolina to practice as a COTA
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred or willingness to obtain upon hire
- Experience in inpatient rehab, long-term care, or related settings is a plus but enthusiastic newer COTAs are welcome
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
Education
- Associate degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant or completion of an accredited OTA program
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of therapeutic techniques to support activities of daily living and functional goals
- Skilled in safe patient handling and adaptive equipment use
- Proficient documentation skills and familiarity with therapy documentation standards
- Ability to adapt interventions to cognitive, physical, and psychosocial needs
- Good time management and organizational skills to manage caseload effectively
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced rehab environment and advocating for patient needs
