Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess respiratory status and develop individualized treatment plans for patients
• Provide ventilator management, airway care and therapeutic interventions with confidence
• Administer respiratory treatments and aerosolized medications safely and effectively
• Perform and interpret arterial blood gases and other diagnostic testing to guide care
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses and interdisciplinary teams to optimize outcomes
• Educate patients and families on respiratory disease management and equipment use
• Document care accurately and timely to maintain high standards of clinical quality
• Respond to respiratory emergencies promptly and calmly to support patient safety

Qualifications

• Valid Virginia Respiratory Therapist license (state licensure required)
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) preferred
• Current BLS required; ACLS and PALS preferred or obtained shortly after hire
• Prior acute care respiratory therapy experience preferred (1+ years recommended)
• Strong clinical assessment skills and comfort with ventilator management
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset

Education

• Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy required; Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Care or related field preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency in ventilator modes, weaning protocols and airway management
• Skilled in ABG analysis and respiratory diagnostics
• Knowledge of oxygen therapy, aerosolized medication delivery and pulmonary hygiene
• Competent documentation in electronic medical record systems
• Ability to triage, prioritize and respond in fast-paced clinical situations
• Team-oriented approach with strong patient education skills
