Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide direct, compassionate care to progressive care and medical-surgical patients from admission through discharge
- Perform skilled patient assessments and monitor hemodynamic status to detect and respond to changes
- Operate and manage advanced medical equipment including ventilators, arterial lines, and multiple IV pumps
- Administer and manage IV medications safely and per protocol, including heparin, diltiazem, dobutamine, milrinone, amiodarone, and dopamine
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement effective care plans
- Lead and precept clinical staff, offering guidance and ensuring adherence to unit policies
- Coordinate discharge planning and provide patient/family education for safe transitions of care
- Respond to rapid changes and escalate care appropriately, supporting patient stability and positive outcomes
Qualifications
- Current Montana RN licensure required
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required (or obtained within 6 months of hire)
- Progressive Care / Medical-Surgical nursing experience preferred
- Telemetry and EKG interpretation experience
- Experience with invasive and noninvasive ventilatory support, central lines, arterial lines, chest tubes, and NG tubes
- Prior pediatric experience and post-heart catheterization care preferred
- Experience precepting or serving in a clinical leadership role is a plus
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient assessment and advanced nursing principles
- Hemodynamic monitoring and telemetry
- IV pump management and multiple IV infusions
- Management of central lines, arterial lines, chest tubes, and NG tubes
- Medication management for critical care medications
- Ability to operate advanced medical equipment and ventilators
- Strong interdisciplinary collaboration and communication skills
- Discharge planning and patient/family education
