Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate direct care to geriatric residents, treating each person with dignity
- Assist residents with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and feeding
- Monitor and record vital signs, reporting any changes to the nursing team promptly
- Support safe mobility and fall-prevention measures while encouraging independence
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation and communicate clearly during shift handoffs
- Help create a warm, home-like environment by engaging residents in conversation and activities
- Follow infection control standards and facility policies to keep residents and staff safe
Qualifications
- Current GNA (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) certification required
- Comfort and experience working night shifts (11:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
- Valid basic life support (BLS/CPR) certification preferred or willing to obtain
- Clear background check and up-to-date immunizations as required by facility
- Strong observational skills and ability to communicate effectively with residents and team
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently in a per-diem capacity
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; GNA certification required
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of geriatric care needs and age-related conditions
- Skill in safe resident handling and mobility assistance
- Familiarity with documenting care in clinical charts and shift logs
- Good infection control practices and hygiene awareness
- Empathy, patience, and strong interpersonal communication
- Time management and ability to prioritize resident safety
