Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess psychiatric and behavioral health patients and develop safe, person-centered care plans
• Stabilize crises using evidence-based de-escalation and therapeutic techniques
• Administer medications and monitor responses while following unit protocols
• Document patient status, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care and discharge planning
• Provide patient and family education to support recovery and safe transitions
• Maintain unit safety through vigilant observation, environmental checks, and adherence to policies

Qualifications

• Active nursing license (state verification required prior to start)
• Current BLS required; ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications as applicable
• Experience or comfort working in a Behavioral Health Unit (BHU) preferred
• Ability to complete full compliance profile within two weeks of start
• Proof of MMR and Varicella vaccination or documented attestation of vaccination/declination
• Able to pass required health screenings and a minimum 10-panel drug test

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong psychiatric assessment and crisis intervention skills
• De-escalation and therapeutic communication techniques
• Medication administration and monitoring in behavioral health settings
• Accurate clinical documentation and familiarity with clinical competency checklists
• Teamwork and effective handoff communication with interdisciplinary partners
• Situational awareness and commitment to patient and staff safety
