Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist the Physical Therapist in delivering direct patient care across all ages
- Implement therapeutic exercises and stretching routines to improve mobility
- Perform safe patient transfers from wheelchairs and walkers to therapy areas
- Teach balance-training techniques and at-home strategies to patients and families
- Collaborate closely with the PT to obtain treatment data and modify care plans
- Complete documentation, scheduling and other administrative tasks accurately
- Maintain a clean, organized and safe therapy area to support patient recovery
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, families, and care teams
Qualifications
- Active PTA license (PTA) — Missouri state license; Compact allowed
- Minimum 1 year PTA experience (required)
- Experience in Long Term Care (LTC) or Rehabilitation settings (required)
- Comfort working with a wide variety of diagnoses including ortho, neuro and cognitive conditions
- Ability to complete required documentation and scheduling tasks
Knowledge & Skills
- Hands-on skills: patient transfers, exercise and stretching instruction, balance training
- Clinical knowledge: orthopedic, neurological and cognitive diagnosis familiarity
- Strong communication skills for patient and family education
- Organizational skills for documentation, scheduling and maintaining therapy areas
- Teamwork mindset: collaborate with PTs, nursing staff and caregivers
