Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care on a 22-room private Med/Surg unit caring for post-op, sepsis, pneumonia, COPD, diabetes, and infectious cases
• Perform Level 1 trauma nursing duties and assist in acute post-op and medical-surgical management
• Safely titrate heparin drips and manage medication administration with attention to protocols
• Maintain sterile technique for Foley catheter insertions and central line dressing changes; demonstrate competency in SIMs Lab
• Collaborate with a resource RN and charge RN to ensure appropriate nurse:patient ratios (typically 1:4-5)
• Float to other med/surg or telemetry areas as needed and provide professional, adaptable coverage
• Participate in unit orientation, competency assessments, lifts/restraints training, and continuing education activities

Qualifications

• Active RN (Registered Nurse) licensure appropriate for practice in Arizona
• Minimum 2 years recent Med/Surg nursing experience
• Required: Level 1 trauma experience (must-have)
• Current BLS certification
• Demonstrated competency with Foley catheter insertion and central line care preferred
• Ability to pass required pre-employment assessments (DYS exam) and SIMs Lab skills (Foley insertion & central line dressing changes) — note there are two attempts for the DYS exam
• Travelers must have their own vehicle; adherence to facility appearance/fit-test requirements (natural hair color, no facial piercings; men must be clean shaven for fit test)

Education

• Registered Nurse (RN) license required
• BSN not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong Med/Surg clinical judgment and trauma nursing skills
• Experience with Cerner electronic charting
• Heparin titration experience (unit uses heparin only; no cardiac gtts)
• Sterile field maintenance and infection control practices
• Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing change competency
• Telemetry experience is a plus (unit may float to tele/other areas)
• Wound care, restraints, and patient lift/transfer skills
• Ability to work with resource RN model and adapt to a new/unit-building environment
