Roles & Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality, evidence-based neonatal nursing care to Level 3 NICU patients from extreme preemies to term infants
- Perform neonatal resuscitation and advanced interventions as needed, following NRP protocols
- Manage complex respiratory support including high-frequency ventilation, Draeger ventilators, NAVA, and Nitric Oxide
- Administer and manage IV therapies and TPN; demonstrate strong intravascular skills and pump management
- Use Cerner and related modules like HUGS and Breast Milk Bridge for accurate charting and breastmilk scanning
- Interpret basic telemetry/arrhythmias on Phillips monitors and collaborate with NNP/MD for confirmation
- Provide compassionate couplet care when floating to Postpartum and care for pediatric patients as needed
- Serve as a professional unit contributor including charge duties when assigned and support team-driven care planning
Qualifications
- Active RN license eligible for practice in California
- Minimum 2 years of NICU experience (Level 3 preferred)
- Certifications required: BLS (AHA), NRP, PALS
- Demonstrated Cerner EMR experience is required
- Strong IV/intravascular therapy skills and experience with TPN
- Comfortable floating to Pediatrics and Postpartum and providing couplet care
- Comfort working with high-acuity, medically complex neonates and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
Education
- Active RN license required for California practice
- BSN not required (associate degree/diploma candidates with required experience and certifications may be considered)
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficiency with Cerner, HUGS security, and Breast Milk Bridge scanning workflow
- Experience with Phillips monitoring systems and basic telemetry interpretation
- Familiarity with ventilator management: Draeger, high-frequency ventilation, NAVA, and Nitric Oxide
- Competence using Medfusion pumps and transitioning knowledge to Alaris syringe pumps
- Strong neonatal resuscitation skills and sepsis/respiratory care expertise
- Ability to manage large IV volumes, secure lines, and TPN administration
- Effective communication with families and multidisciplinary clinicians in high-stress situations
