Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver safe, competent respiratory care per physician orders and department protocols
• Initiate, maintain and monitor ventilator support; interpret flow and pressure curves and implement appropriate interventions
• Perform arterial blood gas (ABG) draws and interpret results to guide therapy
• Provide effective airway management including bag-mask ventilation and assist with intubations
• Administer respiratory medications safely, including neonatal and pediatric dosing when applicable
• Troubleshoot cardiopulmonary equipment and resolve technical issues promptly
• Document all respiratory care accurately in the patient record and communicate clear shift reports
• Participate in patient care rounds, department in‑services, and quality improvement activities
• Assist with orientation/precepting of new staff and students to build a stronger team
• Adhere to infection control, PPE, and safety protocols to protect patients and staff

Qualifications

• Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential from a COARC-approved program (NBRC guidelines) — required
• Minimum of 1 year hospital respiratory experience
• BLS certification (must be obtained within 90 days of hire)
• NRP certification (must be obtained within 6 months of hire)
• Ability to legally work in the United States and pass background check and drug screen
• Able to complete employee health requirements and adhere to facility policies
• Comfort with emergency, neonatal, pediatric, geriatric and critical care environments (preferred)
• Strong patient assessment skills and ability to recommend therapeutic interventions

Education

• Graduate of a COARC‑approved Respiratory Care Program (CRT credential required)
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Mechanical ventilation management and ventilator troubleshooting
• Arterial blood gas sampling and interpretation
• Airway management, suction techniques, and intubation assistance
• Medication administration with neonatal/pediatric dosing awareness
• Monitoring hemodynamics and interpreting blood work as it relates to respiratory care
• Proficiency with cardiopulmonary diagnostic equipment and pulmonary diagnostics
• Clinical documentation/EHR proficiency and accurate charge reconciliation
• Infection control practices and PPE compliance
