Roles & Responsibilities

Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to step-down unit (SDU) patients
Monitor and interpret patient telemetry and hemodynamic data and act promptly
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members to optimize patient outcomes
Educate patients and families about care plans, procedures, and discharge instructions
Document patient assessments, interventions, and responses accurately in the medical record
Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition, escalating concerns as appropriate

Qualifications

Current Registered Nurse (RN) credential
Active RN license in Louisiana or ability to obtain state licensure
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; advanced certifications (e.g., ACLS) beneficial
Experience or strong interest in step-down/SDU patient care
Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and teamwork skills

Knowledge & Skills

Telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythm interpretation
Medication administration and IV therapy competence
Patient assessment and critical thinking in acute care settings
Effective communication with patients, families, and care teams
Familiarity with hospital workflows and electronic medical records
