Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, patient-centered perioperative nursing care in the operating room for general surgery cases
• Prepare the OR and instruments, maintain a sterile field, and ensure equipment readiness prior to procedures
• Collaborate proactively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative team members to ensure smooth case flow
• Perform thorough preoperative and postoperative patient assessments and document care accurately
• Anticipate surgical team needs and respond quickly during procedures to support patient safety
• Adhere to infection control standards, surgical protocols, and facility policies to protect patients and staff
• Participate in team huddles and contribute to quality improvement initiatives in the OR

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (ability to practice in Louisiana required)
• Experience working in an operating room setting (OR-General experience highly relevant)
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced certifications (ACLS) preferred
• Strong clinical assessment skills and proven ability to work in a fast-paced surgical environment
• Excellent teamwork, communication, and documentation skills

Education

• Associate degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid understanding of sterile technique and perioperative infection control
• Familiarity with common surgical instruments, surgical workflows, and patient positioning
• Proficient documentation skills and comfort using electronic health records
• Ability to prioritize tasks, think quickly under pressure, and support a collaborative team
• Good patient education and bedside manner for pre/post-op care
