Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to Neuro Stepdown (SDU) patients
• Perform thorough neuro assessments and monitor telemetry/neurological status closely
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately, following protocols
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and interdisciplinary team members on care plans
• Educate patients and families about condition, treatment, and discharge planning
• Respond promptly to changes in patient condition and escalate per policy
• Document care clearly and timely in the electronic medical record

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana (or eligibility to obtain) required
• Current BLS required; ACLS preferred or required based on unit practice
• Previous experience in Neuro Stepdown, SDU, telemetry, or progressive care preferred
• Strong clinical assessment skills and ability to manage moderate-acuity patients
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Vaccination and background checks as required by facility policy

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required or preferred depending on facility policy
• Certifications and continuing education in neuro/critical care encouraged

Knowledge & Skills

• Neuro assessment and stroke/post-op neuro monitoring
• Telemetry interpretation and cardiac/neurological monitoring
• IV medication administration and titration familiarity
• Critical thinking, prioritization, and rapid decision-making
• Proficient documentation in electronic medical records
• Patient/family education and discharge coordination
