Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality Med/Tele and PCU-level care to adults and geriatric patients with cardiac and medical-surgical needs
- Read and interpret ECG strips and promptly act on telemetry changes
- Assess patients and titrate IV drips safely (Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, low-dose Dopamine as indicated)
- Manage acute presentations including post-cardiac cath care, EP studies, pacer management, respiratory support (BiPAP/trach/High Flow troubleshooting)
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members including physicians, RTs, and monitor techs to coordinate patient care
- Use Epic for documentation and communicate clear, timely handoffs during shift changes
- Float to support other areas as needed (PCU, Medical-Surgical, ER holds) and assist as a helping hand across units
- Precept and participate in unit-specific orientation (two 12-hour shifts) and maintain compliance with unit policies
Qualifications
- Current, unrestricted RN license (able to submit license)
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience (Med/Tele/PCU or related telemetry/cardiac experience preferred)
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret ECG strips and manage telemetry patients
- Experience with titratable drips and cardiac meds
- Comfortable working 12-hour shifts and rotating weekend/holiday schedules
- Epic charting experience preferred; first-time travelers welcome
Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Diploma, Associate Degree, or BSN accepted). BSN not required.
Knowledge & Skills
- Telemetry monitoring and cardiac nursing expertise
- ECG/strip interpretation and rhythm recognition
- IV drip titration and management of common cardiac drips
- Familiarity troubleshooting BiPAP, trachs and high-flow devices
- Experience with tele/monitoring equipment and working with monitor techs
- Strong clinical judgment, triage and patient assessment skills
- Clear communication, teamwork, and documentation in Epic
