Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Variable/rotating shifts: 8-, 10- and 12-hour shifts covering Days, Evenings, Nights and Weekends. Specific start/end times vary by unit; examples of typical shift blocks include Day, Evening and Night coverage. On-call 0-3 times per month (8-hour night calls and 24-hour weekend/holiday coverage). No guaranteed hours or shift preference.
Candidate Pay Rate: $56 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess and monitor patients in Phase I and Phase II post-anesthesia recovery with attention to safety and comfort
- Perform critical care assessments to detect complications early and escalate appropriately
- Administer and manage specialty equipment (PCA pumps, Braun IV pumps, Cryocuff, SCDs, Bair PAWS warmers) and document care in Meditech
- Collaborate with anesthesiology and surgical teams to ensure smooth transitions from OR to PACU
- Provide clear patient and family education during recovery and at discharge
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation of patient status, medications, and interventions
- Participate in unit-based quality and safety initiatives and respond to emergent situations
Qualifications
- Active State of Hawaii professional nursing license required by assignment start date
- Minimum 2+ years experience as a critical care RN (ICU or ER experience may substitute for PACU experience)
- Valid BLS and ACLS from the American Heart Association
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) recommended and may be required for some roles
- NIHSS and TNCC certifications preferred and may be required for specific positions
- Demonstrated experience with post-anesthesia care (Phase I/II), patient assessment and monitoring
- Proof of flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required prior to contract start
Education
- Active RN license (State of Hawaii)
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of post-anesthesia recovery protocols and anesthesiology principles
- Skilled in critical care assessment and patient monitoring
- Experience with Meditech and point-of-care systems (Pyxis, PCA pump management)
- Familiarity with bedside monitors (HP, Phillips) and common PACU devices
- Ability to triage, prioritize and communicate effectively in fast-paced perioperative environments
- Comfort caring for surgical and pediatric patients when required
