Shift Type: Rotating days, 4 days/week, 8:00 AM - 6:30 PM with a rotating day off; plus one weeknight and two weekend days per month for call (day/rotating)

Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist in safe transportation and precise positioning of patients for procedures
• Prepare the operating room by assembling and dismantling tables and instruments
• Open sterile supplies and perform surgical scrub and sterile setup for cases
• Perform skin preparation, draping, gowning and gloving to maintain sterile field
• Pass instruments and suture to the surgeon efficiently during procedures
• Maintain accurate instrument, suture, and sponge counts for patient safety
• Identify, collect, and care for specimens to support accurate diagnostics
• Decontaminate and handle instruments, supplies, and equipment according to policy
• Support quick and efficient operating room turnover to keep the team on schedule
• Apply dressings and assist with immediate post-procedure patient needs

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through NBSTSA or NCCT preferred
• Acceptable alternatives: graduate of OR technician program, military training as a technician, LPN, dental assistant, ophthalmic technician, or medical assistant with documented training
• Minimum 6 months of technical OR experience or equivalent specialized training for non-certified candidates
• Ability to provide documentation of training or verification from training facility, physician in charge, or military command for on-the-job or military training

Education

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Graduate of OR technician program or equivalent training preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in sterile technique and maintaining the sterile field
• Skilled in surgical instrumentation, instrument handling, and counts
• Experienced with patient positioning, skin preparation, and draping
• Knowledgeable in specimen handling and proper labeling/storage
• Able to perform instrument decontamination and point-of-use cleaning
• Comfortable with operating room turnover and supply restocking
• Strong teamwork, communication, and situational awareness in the OR
