Roles & Responsibilities
- Monitor maternal and fetal status continuously using electronic fetal monitoring and intervene promptly when needed
- Provide direct maternal and newborn care across the spectrum of labor, delivery and postpartum
- Assist and circulate in C-sections and support vaginal deliveries, ensuring safety and dignity for patients
- Respond to obstetric emergencies with calm, decisive action and teamwork
- Document patient care accurately in the EMR (Meditech) and communicate clear handoffs
- Collaborate with physicians, anesthesiology, neonatal teams and ancillary staff to coordinate excellent care
- Educate patients and families about labor, delivery, postpartum care and newborn needs
- Maintain and troubleshoot unit equipment such as GE monitors and ensure proper infection control practices
Qualifications
- Current, active RN license for practice in Colorado (or compact privilege where applicable)
- Minimum 2 years clinical nursing experience; recent experience in Labor & Delivery strongly preferred
- Certifications required: ACLS, NRP, Intermediate Fetal Monitoring
- Experience circulating in the OR (OR circulating) and comfort assisting with C-sections
- Familiarity with maternal/newborn care, high-risk OB and common L&D procedures
- Comfort using Meditech EMR; familiarity with Centricity and GE monitors is a plus
- Ability to work night shifts and integrate into an established team quickly
Education
- Current RN license (required)
- Nursing degree (ADN or BSN) - formal nursing education required; BSN preferred where available
Knowledge & Skills
- In-depth knowledge of fetal monitoring and interpretation
- Strong maternal/newborn assessment and neonatal transition skills
- Proficiency with Meditech EMR workflows and documentation
- Experience with Centricity systems and GE monitors
- Critical thinking and rapid decision-making in high-acuity obstetric situations
- Excellent communication, teamwork and patient education abilities
- Familiarity with antepartum, triage and postpartum care and patient ratio expectations
