Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess, diagnose and treat communication and swallowing disorders for patients in a rehabilitation setting
- Develop individualized treatment plans and set measurable goals with patients and families
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team including PT, OT, nursing and physicians to optimize patient outcomes
- Provide thorough documentation, progress notes and discharge planning in a timely manner
- Educate patients, families and caregivers on strategies to support communication and safe swallowing at home
- Use evidence-based interventions and adapt therapy to meet each patient’s functional needs
Qualifications
- Valid California Speech-Language Pathology license or eligibility to obtain state licensure
- Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) preferred
- Current BLS/CPR certification or willingness to obtain upon hire
- Experience in acute care or inpatient rehabilitation preferred, but motivated new grads with strong clinical skills are encouraged to apply
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a collaborative care team
- Ability to maintain accurate documentation and meet facility compliance requirements
Education
- Master’s or clinical Doctorate in Speech-Language Pathology (CASLPA, ASHA-accredited preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in assessment and treatment of dysphagia and cognitive-communication disorders
- Familiarity with evidence-based SLP interventions across the adult rehab population
- Comfortable using electronic medical records for documentation
- Strong clinical reasoning, patient-centered goal setting and progress measurement
- Ability to train and educate caregivers and interdisciplinary staff
