Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, evidence-based patient care using the nursing process: assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate
- Direct and coordinate nursing care for patients across the lifespan, including post-surgical and behavioral health populations
- Perform initial patient assessments and conduct re-assessments every 24 hours to ensure care plans are current and effective
- Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary healthcare professionals to deliver safe, cost-effective care and achieve the best outcomes
- Serve as a clinical resource when situations require expertise and leadership
- Apply age-specific considerations and culturally competent care in all patient interactions
- Maintain clear, timely clinical documentation and contribute to quality improvement efforts
Qualifications
- Completion of a nursing education program from an NLN‑approved institution
- Current, active RN license in the State of Alaska (Alaska RN License required)
- Minimum preferred: 2 years of Med/Surg nursing experience
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications
- International nurses are welcome (YKHC accepts NCLEX, TOEFL and Visa Screen; YKHC designated H1‑C critical shortage area)
Education
- Completed nursing program from an NLN-approved institution (Associate Degree, Diploma, or equivalent per program completion)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong patient assessment and nursing diagnosis skills
- Care planning, implementation and thorough clinical documentation
- Experience with post-surgical care and behavioral health patient needs
- Care coordination and effective interdisciplinary collaboration
- Ability to re-assess patients every 24 hours and adjust care accordingly
- Cultural competence and comfort working with diverse populations and age groups
