Roles & Responsibilities

• Support mental health providers by assisting with patient intake and triage
• Collect and record vital signs and other clinical measurements accurately
• Prepare patients and exam rooms, ensuring a calm and safe environment
• Document patient encounters and maintain clear, timely charts
• Assist with routine care and interventions under provider direction
• Communicate compassionately with patients and multidisciplinary teams
• Follow safety and infection control protocols specific to a correctional health setting

Qualifications

• Active Medical Assistant (MA) certification or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) qualification
• Experience or interest in mental health care is highly desirable
• Ability to start within approximately 3 weeks as requested
• Comfortable working onsite at High Desert State Prison (HDSP) and following facility policies
• Strong communication skills and dependable professional demeanor

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient with taking vitals and basic clinical assessments
• Familiarity with clinical documentation and electronic health records
• Knowledge of infection control and safety procedures
• Good patient communication and de-escalation techniques for behavioral health
• Ability to follow provider directions and work within a team
