Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, patient-centered care to individuals in the mental health unit
• Take and record vital signs, monitor patient status, and report changes to the clinical team
• Assist with basic clinical procedures and daily living support as appropriate to certification
• Accurately document encounters and observations in the medical record
• Support the mental health care team with patient preparation, specimen collection, and point-of-care testing as needed
• Maintain a safe, clean treatment environment and follow infection control and security protocols
• Communicate respectfully with patients and team members to promote a therapeutic environment

Qualifications

• Active Medical Assistant (MA) certification or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification
• Current CPR/BLS certification (or willingness to obtain prior to start)
• Experience or comfort working in mental health or correctional healthcare settings preferred
• Ability to pass required background checks and facility-specific clearances
• Strong communication skills and ability to follow clinical protocols
• Available to begin within three weeks as specified by the facility

Education

• High school diploma or GED required
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or CNA training program preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency in taking vitals and basic patient assessments
• Clear, accurate clinical documentation and familiarity with electronic health records
• Basic wound care, specimen handling, and point-of-care testing skills
• Understanding of infection control, safety, and privacy (HIPAA) principles
• De-escalation and patient-centered communication skills for mental health care
• Ability to follow protocols in a correctional healthcare environment
