Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate direct care to patients in the mental health unit, supporting clinical staff and promoting patient dignity
• Assist with patient intake, vitals, basic assessments, and routine clinical tasks with accuracy and attention to detail
• Document patient encounters and care activities clearly and promptly in the medical record
• Collaborate with the mental health treatment team to support therapeutic goals and continuity of care
• Maintain a safe and secure environment appropriate for a correctional facility while delivering professional, respectful care
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff to ensure coordinated, person-centered care

Qualifications

• Active Medical Assistant certification or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential required
• Experience or interest in mental health care is preferred
• Comfortable working in a correctional facility setting (High Desert State Prison)
• Available to start within 3 weeks as requested in the job notes
• Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent plus completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or CNA training

Knowledge & Skills

• Clinical patient care and basic assessment skills
• Comfort with mental health patient interactions and de-escalation techniques
• Accurate documentation and charting habits
• Ability to follow established safety and security protocols
• Good teamwork, time management, and professional communication
