Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour shifts (day and night), 6:30 AM - 7:00 PM (day) and 6:30 PM - 7:00 AM (night); travelers are scheduled by unit, includes every-other-weekend and required holiday coverage (2-3 holidays between Thanksgiving and New Years)

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide safe, high-quality nursing care for MedSurg/Telemetry Neuro patients including stroke and post-neurosurgery care
• Administer and titrate drips such as heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine per protocol
• Manage PCA pumps and other set-rate drips while monitoring patient response
• Perform thorough hourly rounding and prioritize responsiveness to patient needs
• Coordinate admissions and discharges efficiently during busy unit days
• Collaborate with charge nurses, tele/monitor techs, and patient care techs to maintain excellent patient flow
• Use EPIC for accurate documentation and clinical communication
• Float to other medical-surgical areas as needed while maintaining unit standards

Qualifications

• Active RN license in appropriate state (license to submit is required)
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience (posted requirement)
• Certifications required: BLS (AHA) and NIHSS
• Driver's license required at submittal; candidates must be within 50-mile radius and not employed with CommonSpirit/CHI/Dignity facilities
• Successful completion of orientation pass/fail exam (open-book) with a minimum score of 90%
• Clean background and license checks (no license or background hits allowed)
• Ability to work every-other-weekend and required holiday rotations
• Comfort with mechanical lifts and basic tele monitoring awareness

Education

• Active RN license required
• BSN not required (BSN Required: No as posted)

Knowledge & Skills

• Clinical expertise in MedSurg and telemetry nursing with neuro patient population
• Familiarity with EPIC electronic charting
• Skill in titrating drips and managing PCA pumps safely
• Tele monitoring awareness and ability to act on telemetry findings
• Strong prioritization, time management, and ability to handle multiple admissions/discharges
• Effective communication and teamwork across multidisciplinary teams
• Cultural competency to serve diverse patient populations (Spanish, Karen, Burmese, etc.)
• Comfort using mechanical lifts and safe patient handling techniques
