Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist the physical therapist in delivering personalized treatment plans
- Implement therapeutic exercises and gait training to help patients regain function
- Document patient progress and update care plans in the medical record
- Educate patients and family members on home exercise programs and safety
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care
- Prepare and maintain treatment areas and equipment to ensure safety and cleanliness
- Monitor and report changes in patient status to the supervising therapist
Qualifications
- Active Physical Therapist Assistant license in California (required)
- Completion of an accredited PTA program
- Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification
- Hands-on experience in outpatient, inpatient rehab, or skilled nursing preferred
- Strong communication skills and a patient-centered approach
- Ability to lift, transfer and assist patients safely following facility protocols
Education
- Associate degree or diploma from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in therapeutic exercise, gait training and transfer techniques
- Knowledge of assistive devices and mobility aids
- Comfortable with patient assessment and documentation in EMR systems
- Strong clinical reasoning and ability to follow care plans
- Excellent interpersonal skills for patient and team interactions
- Time management and organizational skills in a busy rehab setting
