Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide skilled nursing care to patients in a correctional facility setting, following policies and standard protocols
- Administer medications and treatments accurately and document care clearly and thoroughly
- Perform patient assessments, monitor vital signs, and report changes in condition promptly
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to coordinate patient care and discharge planning
- Maintain a safe, respectful environment while adhering to correctional facility rules and security procedures
- Participate in training and orientation to ensure consistent practice and high-quality care
Qualifications
- Active Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) credential in good standing (state licensure required for assignment)
- Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification or ability to obtain if required
- Comfort working in a correctional health environment and ability to pass facility background and security requirements
- Excellent communication skills and proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams
- Reliable, punctual, and able to commit to the scheduled days and the full 15-week assignment
Education
- Completion of an accredited Vocational Nursing program or equivalent
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong medication administration and charting skills
- Proficient in patient assessment and basic wound care
- Familiarity with infection control practices and standard precautions
- Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Good documentation practices and attention to detail
- Respectful interpersonal skills for working with patients and custody staff
