Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality perioperative nursing care in the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases
- Act as a strong patient advocate throughout the surgical experience
- Direct and supervise assigned personnel, ensuring safe and effective care
- Utilize the nursing process and established standards of care to inform clinical decisions
- Ensure compliance with policies and procedures to maintain a safe surgical environment
- Float to other departments as needed to support patient care before core staff is floated
- Participate in the unit's on-call rotation and respond as required
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) — title and role explicitly required
- Experience in perioperative nursing (preoperative, intraoperative, postoperative care)
- Comfort with serving as a circulating nurse and with patient advocacy in the OR
- Ability to float to other departments where qualified and to participate in on-call rotations
- Experience directing or supervising assigned staff in a clinical setting
Knowledge & Skills
- Perioperative nursing practices and the nursing process
- Standards of care and policy/procedure compliance in surgical settings
- Circulating nurse responsibilities, including intraoperative support
- Strong patient advocacy and communication skills
- Ability to supervise and coordinate assigned personnel
