Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality respiratory care to adult and pediatric patients with compassion and clinical excellence
- Manage and troubleshoot ventilators and advanced respiratory equipment to maintain patient stability
- Perform and interpret arterial blood gases, aerosol therapy, suctioning, and airway management
- Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and multidisciplinary teams to develop and adjust care plans
- Educate patients and families on respiratory disease management and home care strategies
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately and promptly
- Respond to codes and rapid responses as a respiratory care expert when needed
Qualifications
- Active NY State Respiratory Therapist license or eligible to obtain state licensure
- CRT or RRT credential preferred
- Current BLS required; ACLS and PALS preferred or willing to obtain
- Clinical experience in acute care settings (ICU, med/surg, ED preferred)
- Comfort working independently on night shift with strong clinical judgment
- Clear background checks and up-to-date immunizations as required by facility
Education
- Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy (or equivalent). Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Care or related field is a plus.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong ventilator management and weaning skills
- Proficiency with arterial blood gas sampling and interpretation
- Skilled in airway management including intubation support and suctioning
- Ability to operate and maintain respiratory therapy equipment safely
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills for night-shift collaboration
- Critical thinking and quick decision-making in high-acuity situations
