Roles & Responsibilities

• Screen and assess patients using established screening and assessment policies
• Evaluate nutritional needs across all ages and acuity levels and develop individualized care plans
• Provide targeted medical nutrition therapy and one-on-one nutrition counseling
• Educate patients, families, and caregivers to support improved outcomes
• Document clinical findings and interventions thoroughly and accurately in the medical record
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of nutrition interventions and adjust plans as needed
• Serve as a preceptor and mentor to dietetic interns, fostering the next generation of clinicians
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team as a clinical resource and advocate for patients
• Participate in performance improvement projects, committees, and research opportunities to advance care

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition or Dietetics required
• Completion of an ACEND-accredited supervised practice program
• Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) preferred — if not RDN, must pass the Registration Examination for Dietitians within 3 months of hire
• Licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation within 6 months of hire
• One year of clinical/hospital nutrition experience preferred
• Commitment to obtain 75 CEUs within a 5-year period to meet CDR portfolio requirements
• Maintain current registration and licensure as a condition of employment

Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition or Dietetics
• Completion of an ACEND-accredited supervised practice program

Knowledge & Skills

• Medical Nutrition Therapy and Nutrition Care Process expertise
• Nutrition screening, assessment and nutrition counseling skills
• Strong clinical documentation and critical thinking for comprehensive charting
• Familiarity with Meditech and Computrition systems
• Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
• Thorough understanding of HIPAA and patient confidentiality
• Excellent verbal and written communication, organization, and decision-making
• Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse interdisciplinary team
