Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform high-quality diagnostic ultrasound exams in accordance with protocols and physician requests
- Operate sonography equipment safely and maintain image quality for accurate interpretation
- Assess images for diagnostic quality and communicate findings to radiologists and care teams
- Maintain patient safety and comfort while explaining procedures and addressing concerns
- Accurately document procedures, patient history and relevant technical details in the medical record
- Follow infection control, radiation safety and confidentiality policies at all times
- Collaborate with technologists, nurses and physicians to support efficient patient flow and quality care
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of sonography/ultrasound experience as indicated in the job posting
- Registry eligible or registered by a recognized body such as ARDMS/RDMS preferred
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or must obtain upon hire
- Completion of an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program or equivalent clinical training
- Ability to meet state licensure requirements; willingness to obtain Kentucky credentials if required
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for patient-centered care
Education
- Associate degree or certificate in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Radiologic Technology, or related field; completion of an accredited sonography program
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient in abdominal, OB/GYN and vascular ultrasound protocols
- Skilled in patient positioning and optimizing sonographic images
- Familiarity with PACS, EMR systems and digital image management
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and common pathology seen on ultrasound
- Good clinical judgment and the ability to prioritize in a busy imaging department
