Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide autonomous emergency department patient assessment and management for a broad range of acute presentations
- Independently evaluate, diagnose and initiate treatment plans while consulting the supervising physician as needed
- Document thoroughly in the Cerner EHR and maintain accurate timekeeping using DocTime
- Coordinate care with hospitalists, consultants (Ortho, OB, Gen Surg, Neuro, Urology) and radiology/lab services
- Manage transfers and communicate effectively with EMS/ambulance services and regional referral centers
- Respond to house codes and participate in team-based emergency response when required
- Maintain situational awareness of ED flow (typical daily volume ~20 patients; 25-bed ED) to prioritize care
Qualifications
- NP or PA with national certification and eligibility/ability to obtain Michigan licensure
- Board Certified (site will only accept Board Certified clinicians)
- Extensive Emergency Department experience and comfort with autonomous practice
- Current BLS required; ACLS and PALS preferred/beneficial where applicable
- Current immunizations/documentation or immune titers for Hep B, MMR, Varicella; flu for current season; COVID documentation; TB test within 12 months; TDAP within last 10 years
- Comfort using Cerner EHR and clocking in/out with DocTime (reverse billing site)
- Able to complete credentialing process (estimated ~90 days) prior to start
Education
- Graduate-level clinical degree: NP (MS/ DNP) or PA (MS/PA program completion) required
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong clinical decision-making in emergency medicine and triage principles
- Proficiency with Cerner EHR workflows and timely documentation
- Familiarity with ED-driven admission and transfer protocols
- Experience coordinating with consultants and hospital services (OR, radiology, lab, blood bank)
- Clear communication with EMS/ambulance dispatch and referral centers
- Comfort responding to in-hospital emergencies and participating in resuscitation teams
