Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate personal care to geriatric residents, focusing on dignity and comfort
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding) with patience and respect
- Monitor residents for changes in condition and promptly report observations to nursing staff
- Support safe mobility and fall-prevention measures while encouraging independence
- Accurately document care activities and resident responses in the chart
- Collaborate with the care team to plan and deliver individualized resident care
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment for residents and visitors
- Offer emotional support and engage residents in friendly conversation and meaningful activities
Qualifications
- Current GNA certification (state-recognized) — required
- Previous experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, or geriatric settings preferred
- Basic life support (BLS/CPR) certification preferred or willingness to obtain
- Ability to pass background checks, TB screening, and required immunizations
- Strong communication skills, patience, and genuine empathy for older adults
- Ability to safely assist with resident transfers and mobility (lifting assistance experience a plus)
Education
- High school diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited GNA program required
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of geriatric care principles and common age-related conditions
- Competence with ADLs, feeding assistance, and basic hygiene care
- Basic vital signs measurement and recognizing changes in resident status
- Infection control practices and safe hand hygiene
- Accurate documentation and attention to detail
- Teamwork, time management, and respectful communication with residents and families
