Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, and mobility, with dignity and respect
- Monitor and record vital signs and report any changes to the nursing team promptly
- Provide compassionate companionship and emotional support to older adults
- Help maintain a clean, safe environment and follow infection control practices
- Document care accurately and communicate effectively with team members and families
- Support safe transfers and positioning to promote resident comfort and reduce falls
- Participate in care planning and follow individualized care instructions
Qualifications
- Current GNA certification or completion of an approved GNA program
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- State-required clearances and ability to meet facility onboarding (background check, TB screening, immunizations)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred or willing to obtain
- A caring attitude, dependable work ethic, and solid communication skills
- Previous experience with geriatric or long-term care residents is a plus
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an accredited Geriatric Nursing Assistant program or equivalent certification
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of elderly care principles and common age-related conditions
- Strong observational skills to notice changes in resident condition
- Safe patient handling and transfer techniques
- Accurate documentation and basic charting skills
- Good teamwork and communication with nurses, therapists, and family members
- Time management and ability to prioritize resident needs
