Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Rotating nights, 12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM (night shift). Every other weekend (EOW) with a minimum of 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period; rotating holidays with core staff. Self-scheduling used (manager finalizes); opportunities for overtime and extra shifts.

Candidate Pay Rate: $74 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality critical care nursing for adult Medical/Surgical ICU patients with complex needs
- Manage ventilators and respiratory support in collaboration with RTs, and troubleshoot ventilator changes
- Read and interpret telemetry and EKG strips to identify arrhythmias and acute changes
- Document patient care accurately and timely in Cerner EMR, including bedside report during shift change
- Collaborate with hospitalists and intensivists during multidisciplinary rounds to optimize patient outcomes
- Support and comfort patients and families during end-of-life care situations with professionalism and empathy
- Participate in unit assignments including occasional charge responsibilities and break relief
- Float to other Sacramento facilities when needed while maintaining patient safety and continuity of care
Qualifications
- Current RN license (must be eligible to work in CA) — license to submit: Yes
- Minimum 2 years of ICU / acute care experience
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications; NIHSS required
- Strong experience with ventilator management and telemetry/EKG interpretation
- Comfortable with bedside procedures common in ICU (TEE, bronchoscopy) and comfort care patients
- Cerner EMR experience preferred
- Willingness to work nights, weekends (minimum 4 per 4-week period) and rotate holidays
- Two supervisor references required at submittal (one within 12 months, one within 3 years)
- Successful completion of the Dys exam (basic) through UNA within 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (Relias basic Dys exam within last 12 months accepted if previously taken)
Education
- Active RN license required (state license)
- BSN not required
Knowledge & Skills
- Deep understanding of critical care patient assessment and management
- Proficiency in ventilator settings, weaning, and troubleshooting
- Telemetry monitoring and accurate EKG strip interpretation
- Familiarity with Cerner charting and electronic documentation workflows
- Ability to prioritize in high-acuity situations and delegate when appropriate
- Comfort with bedside diagnostic/therapeutic procedures (TEE, bronchoscopy) and post-op complications
- Strong communication skills for effective handoffs and multidisciplinary collaboration
- Ability to float occasionally and adapt to other unit workflows
