Contract Type: Travel Contract

Shift Type: Rotating 8- or 12-hour shifts (variable); scheduled 80 hours per 2-week period. Exact shift start/end times are assigned by the manager upon arrival. Includes day and night rotations, one on-call shift per roster, at least one weekend off per roster, and occasional floating to other units based on clinical ability.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and triage emergency patients quickly and accurately to prioritize care
• Initiate and manage IV therapy and medications with strong attention to safety
• Lead and participate in stroke, STEMI, and trauma activations to improve outcomes
• Document care clearly and timely in Meditech EMR to support continuity and quality
• Monitor and operate lifesaving equipment including defibrillators and Philips monitors
• Collaborate with the ED team and consult services to coordinate patient flow and disposition
• Implement core measures and National Patient Safety Goals to drive quality care
• Provide clear patient and family education using AIDET principles and strong communication

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Hawaii required by start of assignment (apply upon acceptance if not currently licensed)
• More than 2 years of emergency nursing experience preferred
• Mandatory certifications: ACLS, PALS, TNCC, BLS, NIHSS
• Proficient IV therapy skills and comfort managing high-acuity patients
• Familiar with Stroke, STEMI, and Trauma activations and core measures
• Ability to multitask, work independently, and float to other units as needed
• Requested (not mandatory): NCI and Procedural Sedation experience

Knowledge & Skills

• Emergency Nursing best practices and rapid patient assessment
• IV therapy and medication administration
• BLS, ACLS, PALS protocols and NIHSS stroke assessment
• TNCC principles for trauma care
• Meditech EMR proficiency for documentation and orders
• Experience with LifePak defibrillators, Braun IV pumps, and Philips monitoring systems
• Familiarity with core measures, National Patient Safety Goals, AIDET, and Press Ganey
• Comfort using Motorola radio systems for unit communications
• Strong multitasking, prioritization, and independent clinical decision-making
