Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain sterile instrument trays and surgical supplies for obstetric cases
• Assist surgeons and the obstetrics team during C-sections and L&D procedures with consistent sterile technique
• Perform counts and maintain strict adherence to safety protocols (LA Fire & Safety compliance)
• Document procedures and patient care accurately in Cerner to support quality charting and handoffs
• Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and act proactively to keep the room efficient and safe
• Float to nearby areas as assigned (first to float), supporting patient flow across the OB unit
• Participate in orientation and unit-specific training to ensure a smooth transition into the team

Qualifications

• BLS (AHA) current
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) via NBSTSA or NCCT credential required
• LA City Fire & Safety (LA Fire Card) required
• Minimum of 2 years recent experience working in Labor & Delivery / OB surgical tech role
• Previous acute care OB/OB-CST experience preferred and ability to function in a high-acuity environment
• Eligible/licensed to submit per facility requirements

Education

• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program preferred
• Certification (CST via NBSTSA or NCCT) required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of surgical instrumentation and sterile technique specific to obstetrics
• Experience with Cerner electronic charting and documentation workflows
• Ability to perform accurate surgical counts and follow perioperative safety protocols
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills in fast-paced L&D environments
• Flexibility to float and adapt to unit needs while maintaining high standards of patient care
• Comfort working in an acute care hospital and responding to emergent situations
