Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate personal care and assistance with activities of daily living for older adults
- Assist residents with bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility while preserving dignity
- Monitor and record vital signs, intake/output, and any changes in condition
- Support safe transfers and use proper body mechanics during resident care
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation of care according to facility policy
- Communicate clearly with nurses, families, and the care team about resident needs
- Help maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable living environment for residents
- Engage residents in meaningful social interaction and activities to support emotional well-being
Qualifications
- Active GNA certification (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) — state-approved and current
- State nurse aide registration as required by Maryland regulations
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Comfortable working with older adults, including those with dementia or mobility challenges
- Strong communication skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude
- CPR/BLS certification preferred or willingness to obtain if requested by the facility
Education
- High school diploma or GED
- Completion of a state-approved GNA training program
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in assisting with ADLs (bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding)
- Basic vital signs monitoring and documentation
- Understanding of infection control and safe handling procedures
- Familiarity with safe transfer techniques and assistive devices
- Ability to observe and report changes in physical or mental status
- Compassionate interpersonal skills and patience with geriatric populations
- Basic electronic or paper charting proficiency
