Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate personal care and assistance with activities of daily living for older adults
• Assist residents with bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility while preserving dignity
• Monitor and record vital signs, intake/output, and any changes in condition
• Support safe transfers and use proper body mechanics during resident care
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation of care according to facility policy
• Communicate clearly with nurses, families, and the care team about resident needs
• Help maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable living environment for residents
• Engage residents in meaningful social interaction and activities to support emotional well-being

Qualifications

• Active GNA certification (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) — state-approved and current
• State nurse aide registration as required by Maryland regulations
• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Comfortable working with older adults, including those with dementia or mobility challenges
• Strong communication skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude
• CPR/BLS certification preferred or willingness to obtain if requested by the facility

Education

• High school diploma or GED
• Completion of a state-approved GNA training program

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in assisting with ADLs (bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding)
• Basic vital signs monitoring and documentation
• Understanding of infection control and safe handling procedures
• Familiarity with safe transfer techniques and assistive devices
• Ability to observe and report changes in physical or mental status
• Compassionate interpersonal skills and patience with geriatric populations
• Basic electronic or paper charting proficiency
