Roles & Responsibilities

• Float between medical and surgical units to provide safe, high-quality patient care
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for a diverse inpatient population
• Manage clinical equipment and procedures such as wound VACs and chest tube care
• Accurately document patient care using Meditech EMR and manage medication dispensing with Pyxis
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care and transfers
• Maintain required immunizations and comply with facility policies and professional standards
• Provide patient and family education with compassion and cultural sensitivity
• Adapt to unit-specific workflows and complete orientation for each assignment

Qualifications

• Active Hawaii RN license required by start date (must be obtained if not currently held)
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (position references 2–10 years)
• BLS and ACLS required; PALS, Procedural Sedation, TNCC, ENPC preferred
• Experience in medical-surgical nursing and float pool / cross-unit assignments
• Comfort with Meditech EMR, Pyxis, wound VACs, and chest tube management
• Ability to work with nurse-to-patient ratios typical for med-surg and specialty units
• Proof of immunity required; medical or religious exemptions are not accepted

Knowledge & Skills

• Medical-surgical nursing best practices and acute care assessment
• Proficiency with Meditech EMR for documentation and order workflow
• Medication administration and Pyxis operation
• Wound VAC setup/management and chest tube care
• Strong clinical judgment, prioritization, and time management
• Effective communication and teamwork across multiple units
• Adaptability to float between Medical, Laulima (surgical acute), and occasional Cardiovascular units
• Familiarity with unit-specific nurse-to-patient ratios and safety protocols
