Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, patient-centered intrapartum and postpartum nursing care in Labor & Delivery
- Monitor maternal and fetal status using established assessment tools and escalate changes promptly
- Assist with labor progression, pain management, and delivery support as appropriate
- Collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, neonatology, and the interdisciplinary team to optimize outcomes
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient education accurately in the medical record
- Educate patients and families about labor, delivery, postpartum care and newborn needs
- Maintain clinical competence in emergent obstetric and neonatal situations and participate in drills
Qualifications
- Active RN license (eligible to practice in Tennessee or compact-license eligible) — state licensure required for assignment
- Minimum 2 years of recent nursing experience (per job data), ideally with Labor & Delivery exposure
- Current BLS certification; obstetric/neonatal certifications (e.g., NRP, fetal monitoring) preferred
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills in fast-paced clinical settings
- Comfortable working 12-hour night shifts and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
Education
- Associate or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ASN/BSN) preferred; equivalent nursing degree accepted
Knowledge & Skills
- Intrapartum and postpartum nursing care best practices
- Electronic fetal monitoring and interpretation
- Neonatal assessment and basic neonatal resuscitation awareness
- Proficient clinical documentation and time management
- Team-based communication and escalation for rapid clinical changes
- Ability to educate and support patients and families during labor and postpartum
