Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, patient-centered intrapartum and postpartum nursing care in Labor & Delivery
• Monitor maternal and fetal status using established assessment tools and escalate changes promptly
• Assist with labor progression, pain management, and delivery support as appropriate
• Collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, neonatology, and the interdisciplinary team to optimize outcomes
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient education accurately in the medical record
• Educate patients and families about labor, delivery, postpartum care and newborn needs
• Maintain clinical competence in emergent obstetric and neonatal situations and participate in drills

Qualifications

• Active RN license (eligible to practice in Tennessee or compact-license eligible) — state licensure required for assignment
• Minimum 2 years of recent nursing experience (per job data), ideally with Labor & Delivery exposure
• Current BLS certification; obstetric/neonatal certifications (e.g., NRP, fetal monitoring) preferred
• Strong assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills in fast-paced clinical settings
• Comfortable working 12-hour night shifts and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams

Education

• Associate or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ASN/BSN) preferred; equivalent nursing degree accepted

Knowledge & Skills

• Intrapartum and postpartum nursing care best practices
• Electronic fetal monitoring and interpretation
• Neonatal assessment and basic neonatal resuscitation awareness
• Proficient clinical documentation and time management
• Team-based communication and escalation for rapid clinical changes
• Ability to educate and support patients and families during labor and postpartum
