Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert critical care nursing for adult ICU patients, managing complex needs with confidence
• Monitor and interpret telemetry and hemodynamic data to drive timely interventions
• Manage ventilators, noninvasive respiratory support (CPAP/BiPAP), and perform ventilator checks
• Perform and assist with procedures such as port access, therapeutic phlebotomy, and physician-led paracentesis
• Administer medications and blood transfusions safely while maintaining accurate documentation in Meditech Expanse
• Maintain central line, chest tube, NG tube, wound VAC and drain care following unit policies
• Collaborate with physicians, CNCC, RNs, PCTs and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
• Provide compassionate patient and family education and support during critical illness
• Support unit staffing and patient flow, including floating when needed and mentoring colleagues

Qualifications

• Active RN license in good standing (compact licensure accepted if applicable)
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIH Stroke Scale certification current (annually)
• Hands-on experience with ventilator management, telemetry monitoring, and critical care equipment
• Comfortable with central line care, chest tubes, NG tubes, wound VACs, and post-dialysis assessments
• Ability to work 12-hour night shifts and commit to scheduled weekends as required
• Strong clinical judgment, effective communication skills, and teamwork mindset

Knowledge & Skills

• Critical care assessment and rapid prioritization
• Telemetry interpretation and cardiac monitoring
• Mechanical ventilation and noninvasive ventilation (CPAP/BiPAP) management
• IV/central line care, blood transfusion protocols, and port access
• Experience using Meditech Expanse for documentation
• Familiarity with Philips telemetry and Baxter pumps
• Safe medication administration and titration in acute settings
• Patient ratio management (2:1, 3:1) and adapting to dynamic unit needs
