Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional med-surg nursing care to post-op and orthopedic patients, ensuring safety and comfort
• Perform and monitor blood transfusions and manage IV therapy with attention to protocol and patient response
• Maintain and care for central lines, preventing infection and ensuring proper function
• Assess patients continuously, document changes accurately in the electronic record (Medhost, transitioning to Meditech), and escalate concerns promptly
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to create and execute individualized care plans
• Educate patients and families on post-op care, discharge instructions, and recovery expectations
• Use unit technology confidently — Computer on Wheels, Pyxis, and Welch Allyn vital sign machines — to streamline care
• Adhere to unit guidelines and safety protocols while supporting a positive patient experience

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (ability to meet travel licensure requirements)
• Minimum 2 years of recent Med-Surg nursing experience (post-op/orthopedic experience required)
• BLS required; ACLS preferred but not mandatory
• Experience with blood transfusions, IV and central line maintenance
• Comfortable documenting in Medhost and willing to adapt to Meditech when the unit transitions
• Ability to float between MS2 and MS3 and work a 3-shift-per-week schedule including every other weekend

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid med-surg clinical judgment and post-op orthopedic patient care
• Proficient in IV therapy, central line care, and blood transfusion procedures
• Familiarity with Pyxis medication systems and Computer on Wheels workflows
• Experience with Medhost documentation (and readiness to learn Meditech)
• Skilled at patient assessment, vitals monitoring (Welch Allyn), and documentation
• Strong communication and teamwork skills in fast-paced hospital settings
