Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality medical-surgical nursing care for a 19-bed unit, including post-op and acute medical conditions
- Monitor telemetry and interpret cardiac strips in collaboration with CCU/monitor techs
- Deliver respiratory support using CPAP/BiPAP and high-flow equipment when needed
- Administer medications and manage IV drips (titrations are infrequent but required at times)
- Perform wound care and support patients with diabetic wounds and post-operative needs
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including CNAs, RTs, charge nurses and house supervisors
- Support patient and family education to promote recovery and safe transitions of care
- Float as a helpful team member to other departments when needed, or cross-train for expanded opportunities
- Document thoroughly in MEDITECH and maintain accurate patient records
Qualifications
- Active Oregon RN license required (candidates may apply for the OR 90-Day Emergency License)
- BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of recent medical-surgical nursing experience
- Comfortable with telemetry-monitored patients and common Med/Surg diagnoses (CHF, COPD, pneumonia, post-op care)
- Experience with wound care, medication administration and IV drips
- Willingness to work 12-hour night shifts and respond to low-census call expectations (report within ~30 minutes if called)
Education
- Active RN license (ADN, diploma or BSN acceptable) — BSN not required
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong clinical assessment and prioritization skills for Med/Surg and occasional pediatric patients
- Telemetry monitoring and familiarity with reading cardiac strips
- Experience with respiratory support: CPAP, BiPAP and high-flow therapy
- Proficiency with medication administration, IV drips and common titratable infusions (e.g., heparin)
- Wound care skills, including diabetic wound management
- Comfortable using MEDITECH for charting and patient documentation
- Teamwork, adaptability and ability to function in a unit with CNAs and charge nurse support
