Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on therapeutic interventions under the direction of a licensed physical therapist to help patients regain mobility and independence
- Deliver therapeutic exercise programs, gait training, transfers and functional activities with safety and empathy
- Document patient treatments, progress and response to interventions accurately in the patient record
- Collaborate proactively with the interdisciplinary care team to support patient-centered goals
- Educate patients and caregivers on home exercise programs, fall prevention and safe mobility techniques
- Maintain equipment, treatment areas, and infection-control standards to ensure patient safety
Qualifications
- Active Physical Therapy Assistant license or certification as required by California
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- Ability to pass license/certificate verification and required health screenings (TB, drug screen, immunizations, fit test, etc.)
- Previous experience as a PTA in acute care, hospital, outpatient or skilled nursing settings preferred
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
Education
- Associate Degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program (or equivalent)
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in therapeutic exercise, gait training and patient handling techniques
- Familiarity with documentation best practices and electronic health records
- Knowledge of infection control, safety protocols and patient mobility equipment
- Good clinical reasoning, time management and patient education skills
- Comfort working with diverse patient populations and varying acuity levels
