Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, hands-on care to residents by assisting with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, mobility and toileting)
- Observe and report changes in resident condition to nursing staff to help ensure safety and timely care
- Assist with safe transfers and mobility, using proper body mechanics and equipment
- Support mealtime needs and document intake to help maintain resident nutrition and hydration
- Maintain clean, safe and dignified living spaces while upholding infection control standards
- Build trusting relationships with residents and families, delivering person-centered care with respect and empathy
Qualifications
- GNA certification (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) or completion of an approved GNA program
- Current basic life support (BLS/CPR) certification is encouraged if available
- Comfortable assisting with transfers, ADLs and basic patient care
- Ability to pass required background checks and health screenings
- Strong communication skills and a team-oriented attitude
- Previous experience in long-term care or geriatric settings is a plus
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited GNA program
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of resident-centered care and dignity-focused practice
- Basic knowledge of infection control and safety procedures
- Ability to take and record vital signs and observe behavioral or physical changes
- Good documentation skills and familiarity with care reporting
- Calm, patient approach to working with older adults and those with cognitive changes
