Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, resident-centered care to older adults, preserving dignity and independence
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, mobility)
- Monitor and record vital signs, intake/output and any changes in condition accurately
- Support safe transfers and mobility, using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
- Document care and observations clearly and promptly in the facility system
- Communicate effectively with nurses, families and the care team to coordinate excellent care
- Follow infection control protocols and facility policies to keep residents safe
Qualifications
- Current GNA (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) certification or equivalent in the practicing state
- Active BLS/CPR certification as required by the facility (check state/facility policy)
- Ability to pass background check, drug screen and required immunizations
- Comfortable working with geriatric populations and skilled at compassionate, respectful care
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team
Education
- GNA certification required
- High school diploma or GED preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in ADLs and resident assistance with dignity and patience
- Knowledge of basic vital signs and early recognition of changes in condition
- Familiarity with infection control, safe resident handling and documentation best practices
- Good time management and the ability to prioritize resident needs during a shift
- Empathy, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team
