Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting
- Support safe mobility and transfers using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
- Take and record vital signs, observe changes, and report concerns to the nursing team
- Provide compassionate companionship and promote dignity and independence
- Follow individualized care plans and document care accurately and timely
- Maintain a clean, safe environment and adhere to infection control standards
- Communicate effectively with nurses, interdisciplinary team members, and families
- Participate in care planning and contribute meaningful observations to improve resident outcomes
Qualifications
- Current Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification (or equivalent state certification)
- Completion of a state-approved GNA program or validated training
- Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification preferred or willing to obtain
- Comfortable working with elderly residents, including those with cognitive impairment
- Ability to pass background check, drug screen, and meet facility onboarding requirements
- Reliable, compassionate, and a strong team player
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Completion of a GNA training program or equivalent state-approved coursework
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of geriatric care principles and dignity-focused caregiving
- Safe patient handling and mobility assistance skills
- Accurate documentation and charting abilities
- Strong observational skills to notice subtle changes in resident condition
- Effective verbal communication and teamwork
- Basic infection control and safety practices
