Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate hands-on occupational therapy services under OT supervision to support patient function and independence
- Perform assessments and implement individualized treatment plans focused on meaningful daily activities
- Educate patients and caregivers on home programs, adaptive strategies, and safe transfer techniques
- Document patient progress clearly and timely, ensuring regulatory and facility standards are met
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes and transition planning
- Recommend and instruct on adaptive equipment and environmental modifications to improve independence
Qualifications
- Active COTA certification/license (Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant) or eligible to obtain Vermont licensure prior to the assignment
- Completion of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program (see Education)
- Current CPR/BLS certification or willingness to obtain upon hire
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with patients and team members
- Professional, reliable, and comfortable working in an interdisciplinary rehabilitation setting
Education
- Associate degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant or related field from an accredited program
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in patient assessment, treatment implementation, and progress documentation
- Familiarity with adaptive equipment, splinting basics, and ADL/IADL interventions
- Ability to follow treatment plans and adapt techniques to individual patient needs
- Good clinical problem-solving and time-management skills
- Comfortable collaborating with PTs, OTs, nurses, and case managers to achieve goals
