Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide direct, compassionate care to geriatric patients, supporting activities of daily living with dignity
- Assist nursing staff with routine tasks such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and mobility
- Monitor and document patient condition changes, reporting concerns promptly to the RN
- Support safe transfers and fall-prevention measures to keep patients secure
- Participate in care planning and interdisciplinary communication to deliver coordinated care
- Maintain a clean, respectful environment and follow infection control protocols
- Engage with residents and families to create a warm, reassuring experience
Qualifications
- Active GNA certification (or equivalent state-recognized nursing assistant certification)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred or willingness to obtain
- Previous experience working with older adults is a plus — compassion matters most
- Up-to-date immunizations and TB screening as required by facility policy
- Ability to pass background checks and meet facility onboarding requirements
- Strong communication skills and a team-oriented attitude
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Completion of an accredited GNA or nursing assistant program
Knowledge & Skills
- Comfortable assisting with ADLs (bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding)
- Familiarity with basic patient mobility and transfer techniques
- Basic documentation skills and attention to detail
- Understanding of infection prevention and safety protocols
- Empathy, patience, and strong interpersonal skills for working with seniors
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary care team
