Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate daily care to geriatric residents, assisting with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming)
• Support safe mobility and transfers, using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
• Monitor residents’ condition and report changes promptly to the nursing team to ensure timely care
• Assist with meals and nourishment, observing for swallowing or dietary concerns
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of care, behaviors, and any incidents
• Build trusting relationships with residents and families to promote comfort, dignity, and quality of life

Qualifications

• Active GNA credential or equivalent certification (required)
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification preferred or willing to obtain
• Experience working with older adults or in long-term care settings is a strong plus
• Strong communication skills and a patient, respectful bedside manner
• Ability to pass required background checks and health screenings for facility placement

Education

• High school diploma or GED required; completion of a GNA/Geriatric Nursing Assistant training program preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of geriatric care principles and common age-related conditions
• Skilled in assisting with ADLs, feeding, and toileting needs
• Familiar with infection control practices and safe handling procedures
• Comfortable documenting care in electronic or paper charting systems
• Team player who collaborates with RNs, therapists, and support staff
• Good observation skills for noticing changes in mood, behavior, or health status
