Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate daily care to geriatric residents, assisting with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming)
- Support safe mobility and transfers, using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
- Monitor residents’ condition and report changes promptly to the nursing team to ensure timely care
- Assist with meals and nourishment, observing for swallowing or dietary concerns
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of care, behaviors, and any incidents
- Build trusting relationships with residents and families to promote comfort, dignity, and quality of life
Qualifications
- Active GNA credential or equivalent certification (required)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification preferred or willing to obtain
- Experience working with older adults or in long-term care settings is a strong plus
- Strong communication skills and a patient, respectful bedside manner
- Ability to pass required background checks and health screenings for facility placement
Education
- High school diploma or GED required; completion of a GNA/Geriatric Nursing Assistant training program preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of geriatric care principles and common age-related conditions
- Skilled in assisting with ADLs, feeding, and toileting needs
- Familiar with infection control practices and safe handling procedures
- Comfortable documenting care in electronic or paper charting systems
- Team player who collaborates with RNs, therapists, and support staff
- Good observation skills for noticing changes in mood, behavior, or health status
