Orthopedic Surgeon - Trauma
Location: Tacoma, Washington
Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Assigned two-week blocks per month providing 24-hour coverage for the ER (rotating 24-hour shifts, typical on-duty period starts at 5:00 PM and runs 24 hours to 5:00 PM next day; covers nights and days), plus three outpatient clinic mornings per week (Monday-Friday mornings; specific clinic days vary). Shift type: rotating 24-hour coverage with weekday morning clinic sessions.
Candidate Pay Rate: $446 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive orthopedic care in a Level II trauma center setting, managing a full spectrum of cases excluding complex pelvic procedures
- Cover the emergency room 24/7 during assigned two-week blocks, triaging, stabilizing and coordinating definitive care
- Perform operative and non-operative orthopedic procedures as indicated and appropriate
- Run outpatient morning clinics three times per week to manage follow-up care and consults
- Collaborate closely with PAs, MAs and hospital support staff to ensure seamless patient care and efficient workflows
- Participate in on-call rotations and respond to pages and callbacks in a timely, professional manner
- Document care thoroughly in EPIC and support hospital credentialing and privileging requirements
Qualifications
- MD or DO degree and completion of an accredited Orthopedic Surgery residency
- Minimum 5 years of experience working at a Level II trauma center is required
- Orthopedic trauma fellowship is preferred but not required if equivalent trauma experience exists
- Current or eligible medical license for Washington State and ability to complete credentialing (60-90 days)
- Proven experience with emergency room coverage and inpatient orthopedic management
- Familiarity with EPIC electronic medical records is required
- Comfort working with and supervising PAs and clinic support staff
Education
- MD or DO; completion of Orthopedic Surgery residency; orthopedic trauma fellowship preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Full spectrum orthopedic surgical skills (excluding complex pelvic cases)
- Trauma care and acute fracture management in a busy Level II center
- Emergency room triage, stabilization and decision-making under pressure
- Outpatient clinic workflows and post-operative follow-up management
- On-call management, pager response and coordinated handoffs
- Proficiency with EPIC for clinical documentation and order entry
- Credentialing and privileging processes within hospital systems
